SEKOLAH TUNAS UNGGUL MISSION STATEMENT

To develop students spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually which then enables them to adapt and contribute in a global world.

Our mission is to build quality education for:

  • cultivating faith, piety, and noble character of students;
  • developing self and social awareness;
  • improving knowledge, insight, and students’ critical thinking;
  • strengthening students’ language literacy, numeracy, communication and use of technology.
  • developing active, compassionate, lifelong learners and global citizens. 

IB MISSION STATEMENT

The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Primary Years Programme

The PYP transdisciplinary framework focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both at school and beyond. Through its framework and inquiry learning, the PYP in Tunas Unggul guides students to sharpen the academic, social and emotional wellbeing, international-mindedness and strong personal values. The PYP nurtures independent learning skills, encouraging every student to take responsibility for their learning.  The programme incorporates local and global issues into the curriculum. Student assessment is varied and continuous to meet the needs of each component of the programme. Students meet the requirements established by the National Ministry of Education as well as those set by the IBO. A Graduation Certificate from the Indonesian Ministry of Education is presented to PYP 6 students who meet these requirements. 

By the end of the final year (Grade 6) of the PYP, the students were involved in a culminating project, the PYP Exhibition under the guidance of their teachers. This requires that each one of them perform engagement with the essential elements of the programme (Conceptual Understanding, Knowledge, Approaches to Learning Skills and Action).

Knowledge

The inquiry program is organized around six transdisciplinary themes of global significance and learning about these themes underpins the program. Students address all six themes each year; Who We Are, Where We Are in Place and Time, How We Express Ourselves, How the World Works, How We Organize Ourselves, Sharing the Planet.

The PYP Approaches to Learning or commonly known as Skills are a set of transdisciplinary skills that are valuable for all their learning within the classroom and in life outside of school. They are tools that can be used by students across all subject areas to become successful learners. Thinking Skills, Research Skills, Communication Skills, Social Skills, Self-management Skills.

Action is an integral part of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and an opportunity for students to seek the opportunity to make a significant contribution to their local and global communities. It is a core component of agency and offers learners the ability to see that they can not only make a meaningful contribution to the world around them but also be change-makers.
